Henri Ernest Baillon was a botanist and physician. He was born in 1827 in Calais, and died in 1895 in Paris.
Baillon spent his professional life as a professor of natural history, and published several works of botany. In 1867, he was appointed to the Légion d'honneur (Legion of Honor), and in 1894, joined the Royal Society.
Baillon put the "Dictionnaire de botanique" together, while Auguste Faguet produced the wood engravings.
When citing a botanical name, Baillon is abbreviated as Baill.
